Research Interests
My primary research focuses on urban tree species diversity. I am especially interested in the species composition of trees in highly built-up landscapes. If we have too many of the same species (monoculture), the urban forest is at a greater risk of being devastated by the next invasive pest or pathogen.
I conduct field work and social science research investigating the constraints and opportunities surrounding tree diversity in the built landscape. I want my research to eventually contribute to more biodiverse, resilient urban forests.
I'm also interested in patterns of urban tree canopy (UTC), municipal and community forest management practices, and urban tree growth and longevity.
